Spanish design bureau Mimouca Barcelona has renovated an apartment in a historic Gaudi building in Barcelona’s Eixample district for a family with two children.

The modern loft apartment interior was inspired by the architecture of the surrounding old town. The key task and challenge of the architect was to create the feeling of space, which has been achieved by joining the kitchen with the living room, installing the windows over the entire height of the wall and by using such elements as light and pastel surface colours and mirrors.

Maida Vale Apartment is a minimalist refurbishment located in London, United Kingdom, designed by MWAI. The project is a renovation of a split-level top floor apartment in a Victorian terrace in central London. At the heart of the project is the beautifully crafted entrance hall. The space provides the occupant their first impression of the home and all other spaces connect off it. Soft textured polished plaster in a carefully controlled linear pattern transforms the space into a calming environment that leaves a lasting impression throughout the remainder of the house. Through the use of geometry and pattern the minimal spaces are given character and a fresh face. The sharpness is softened through the choice of materials and the geometric rigor that they have undergone. This duality between the sharpness of the geometry and softness of texture and tone results in a beautiful and enchanting family home.

The narrative surrounding property in London constantly comes back to luxury developments like South Bank Tower. The promotional campaigns for these are usually relentlessly aspirational, and lack personal touch to say the least. It comes as a surprise then, to see Paris-based illustrator Tom Haugomat raise the bar with a series of striking, cinematic posters for the Southbank high-rise.

It has been a manic few days/weeks trying to finish a lot of jobs round the house. The efforts have paid of as I have only two more rooms left to do. Well one is a room, the bathroom, the other is the front of the house, front door, fencing, planting etc…It has been highly neglected whilst we were concentrating on getting the inside done. No doubt about the colour, it will be black, just look how beautiful it looks next to the trees in the picture above. The inspiration came from those Icelandic black timber houses, such a statement!
