With both the front and rear facing busy roads and the side an old house, this house looks inwards. A triple volume covered but naturally ventilated court with a pool becomes the focus of the internal space.

An old drying loft on top of a 1920´s city block is transformed into two new apartments. It’s a refurbishment as well as an extension with four large new arcs both towards the street and the courtyard. The height of the arcs lets the light flow into the centre of the apartments from both sides where the kitchen connects the dining area and the living rom. Each of the apartments have a rooftop terrace on top of an arc. The project is all about exploiting the qualities that the rooftop situation represents. The minimalistic expression of the arcs are made to match the stripped down facades of the modestly built house without the ornaments and details typically found on buildings in this area.

A large modern house on the shore of the reservoir was once a small family dacha where the summer was spent.

The customer turned to Nottdesign when the transformation process was already in full swing: a new part was attached to the old house – with a much larger volume, on the second floor. So all the adjustments made by the architects literally on the fly.

Maida Vale Apartment is a minimalist refurbishment located in London, United Kingdom, designed by MWAI. The project is a renovation of a split-level top floor apartment in a Victorian terrace in central London. At the heart of the project is the beautifully crafted entrance hall. The space provides the occupant their first impression of the home and all other spaces connect off it. Soft textured polished plaster in a carefully controlled linear pattern transforms the space into a calming environment that leaves a lasting impression throughout the remainder of the house. Through the use of geometry and pattern the minimal spaces are given character and a fresh face. The sharpness is softened through the choice of materials and the geometric rigor that they have undergone. This duality between the sharpness of the geometry and softness of texture and tone results in a beautiful and enchanting family home.

For people our age, most internet giants are still – way in the back of our heads – basement projects consisting of a couple of nerdy friends and a rundown laptop. Of course, we now know it’s not like that anymore, but seeing the new Amazon headquarters in Milano really helped us realize how fast this new form of commerce is growing.
